I've paced half marathon distances at Georgetown to Idaho Springs, and also at the Rock & Roll Denver Half Marathon. This year, I'll be pacing the Colfax Marathon. Aaron B. - 3:30 pacer

From the moment I met him, I sensed something different. I just didn’t know what or how high he was reaching. Aaron Burros emerged from the crowd carrying the 13-minute pacer flag. That meant he would be my pacer for the Allstate Hot Chocolate 15K in Tampa on December 16th, 2018. He was a commanding presence and we were about to learn why. The Run As we crossed the starting line and established our 1-minute run – 1-minute walk rhythm of the Jeff Galloway running system, he got us talking. That’s different from any other pacer I’ve seen. The others were good at keeping our pace and very personable but Aaron took it to another level. He engaged us with humor, information, and encouragement. He had us singing and shouting, letting everyone one nearby know we were there. It’s amazing how he was coaching us but also taking our mind to another level. Every time we walked, he asked two people to introduce themselves with their name, where they were from, why they ran and their claim to fame. Hearing each other’s stories, we were introduced, found similarities and motivation as we ran 9.3 miles. (After the race we exchanged our contact information. I wouldn’t have imagined I could pick up new clients while running a race.) Very quickly I realized this race was going to be much more than I anticipated. The Rest of the Story SPOTIFY https://open.spotify.com/episode/03ucYLHjbQNUpENT8UHRhE?si=UbdNM0G9QDOC68bPhm5_UQ&dl_branch=1. APPLE https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/run-the-race/id1485963489?i=1000529051491 #RunningServant How would you respond to those circumstances? I’m guessing most of us would play it safe. But not Aaron. He wants to help others. Even in the midst of his pain and the threat to his wellbeing, he chooses to help others. As the #RunningServant, he runs to raise money to help those who can’t help themselves. He thinks bigger and reaches higher knowing there are others who are also in pain and he wants to help alleviate their suffering. That is the very definition of compassion. That is why he was our pacer. In pacing us, he was helping us to do what we wouldn’t have done otherwise. But you wouldn’t ever have known it without hearing his story. He was energetic, humorous and a great coach. He took us mentally and physically to another level while he was in constant pain. The #runningservant runs for others when he is in pain and threatened by others. That is thinking much bigger and reaching much higher.

Aaron is a collaborative runner (as compared to a competitive runner), and love running in groups, organizing group runs, and encouraging other runners to reach new goals and exceed their own expectations. It seemed a natural fit for me to become a marathon pacer. Aaron has been a consistent runner for 10 years, and ran his first marathon in Chicago in 2014. Since then, he has completed over 65 marathons in 36 states, and has been a pacer for over 30 marathons to-date.

Raman W. - 5:15 pacer

Raman started running in his mid-40's when he finally realized that he is mortal and exercise might actually be a good idea. He now runs distances from 13.1 to 100 miles, but still considers his greatest achievement to be the first half marathon he completed. (Longview) His favorite thing about the running community is how inclusive it is. Everyone is at a different place in their journey, and runners of all abilities respect that. Some of his best races were due to the pacers he ran with, through their encouragement, smart race strategy or from just plain spite in deciding that the annoying pacer was not going to beat him. One way or another, he hopes to do the same for others.

5:30 SmartPace Teams

Bob S. - 5:30 pacer

Running became a part of Bob’s lifestyle during his school years but he didn’t run a marathon until in his ‘50s. He quickly caught the marathon bug and will pass the 200 marathon mark in 2024. He loves to help runners manage their energy, shares running tips and keeps his pace team entertained. His passion even affected his wife who now runs 10-15 marathons a year. Though he no longer puts up Boston qualifier times, he loves helping others achieve their goals and getting them to the finish line on time. When not pacing you can find him busy vegetable gardening and providing consulting services to small businesses across the US.

DEANNE C. - 5:45 pacer

Deanne started running at 5 years old. After several knee surgeries, by the age of 14 she was told she could not run anymore. Throughout the years she only ran sparingly. At the age of 40, she decided to train for a half marathon to celebrate a friend's 40th birthday. The rest is history. Now, she has 40+ marathons and over 100 half marathons under her belt. Deanne has ran marathons in 20 states with a goal of completing the rest of the 50 states. Aside from that she enjoys pacing people in halves and full marathons. She will tell you one of her favorite things is helping people reach the finish line as well as their running goals. Everybody has a story and their stories fascinates her.
