1:35 SmartPace Teams

Shawn P. - 1:35 pacer

Shawn officially caught the running bug in the summer of 2008 after a friend duped him into training for the Omaha Half Marathon. As training progressed, and miles began rolling by, the idea of scrapping the half and taking on the challenge of the full 26.2 seemed intriguing.

As it turns out, Shawn crossed the marathon finish line with all body parts intact, and after experiencing the camaraderie and celebration that awaits all finishers, there was only one thing left to do: sign up for another!

Since then, Shawn has run over 20 marathons (7x Boston finisher) and numerous ultramarathons, including three 100 milers. In addition, Shawn is also a three-time ironman.

He has paced numerous half and full marathons, so rest assured he will get you to pay dirt!! Each time he utilized the proven SmartPace strategy to get the group across with time to spare!

If you are a part of Shawn’s pace group, you can expect a day of fun, laughter, lots witty banter, positivity, and achieving your goal!

1:40 SmartPace Teams

Matt S. - 1:40 pacer

While Matt ran regularly and raced road races for fun in high school (a long long time ago), Matt "began" running again in 2011 shortly after the birth of his son (his second child). He quickly fell in love with running, lost nearly 40 pounds and ran the Des Moines Half Marathon that fall. He complete his first full marathon at the Lincoln Marathon in 2012. He has completed 5 full marathons (Lincoln, Omaha, Santa Clarita, Grandmas and Philly). Matt has run 5 half marathons (Wichita, Lincoln, Des Moines (x2) and Omaha). Matt has paced at the Omaha Marathon twice, first as the 4 hour full marathon pacer (2012) and most recently as the 1:55 half marathon pacer (2013). He had incredibly rewarding experiences both times. Matt believes that successful racing begins by starting out easy and then methodically working up to pace, as most runners tend to go out too fast, costing them valuable energy and time at the end of the race. Matt also prefers even effort as opposed to even pace. This means we will go easier up hills, faster pace down hills, and probably a little faster than average pace on flat as he plans to walk all water stops after about halfway. He loves to have fun and promises to keep things interesting. Let's do this!
Half Marathon PR: 1:26:15

He is looking forward to helping all the runners reach their goals and share some good running stories!

Since then, she's competed in 8 half marathons, 12 Olympic distance triathlons, two 1/2 Ironman races, three 50Ks, two 50 milers and is pumped to have crossed "help someone finish a race" off her bucket list when she paced friends for 100 milers this past year. Erin is a personal trainer in Omaha and works primarily with runners and triathletes. Ultra marathons and trail running are her passion, but also expect to hear good stories (she has her masters degree in story telling) and talk about lots of good food if you're in her pace group!

Stephen picked up running in late 2010 after realizing that two little curtain climbers needed their dad to be able to romp and play instead of sitting on the couch eating potato chips. Inspired by his brother who had also achieved great health results via running, he trained and completed his first 10k at the TLC Groundhog in January 2011. Since then he has run 5ks, 10ks, 10 mile trail, 20 mile trail, 50K trail, 44 miler at Brew2Brew multiple times, The Hawk 50 mile trail race, a bunch of full marathons, countless half marathons, sprint and international distance triathlon along with an ironman distance in 2014. His first marathon was the MO Cowbell in St. Charles, MO. His half marathon PR came in 2013, which was run purely for fun. The social and all inclusive aspect of running and multi-sport is what keeps Stephen going. Stephen has less race plans these days but loves to help out with marathon and half marathon pacing.

David H. - 4:00 pacer

David H has been a life-long runner. From early inspiration at elementary school, when 400m was long distance, to a first half marathon aged 12, running has been a central tenant in his life. David ran the London marathon throughout the 90s before moving to the south western U.S. and falling in love with the desert and mountains. His favorite marathon experience was the Midnight Sun Marathon in Alaska which showed him that running races is the best way to experience new places and pack a whole lot of quality memories into a short time. After successfully chasing down his sub-three hour goal, David has focused more on the enjoyment and less on the speed and passionately believes that running can enrich anyone’s life, even if they have not yet realized it. He has run 50 mile and 100K trail races and is running in the 100 mile Big Horn Wild and Scenic run in Wyoming in June. David loves to inspire improving runners by sharing his experiences in training and racing smart, staying injury free as well as in healthy yet enjoyable nutrition.

These taking place all over the United States. My favorite running event is the marathon. It’s a great experience! There are people everywhere; runners and fellow competitors swarming all over the place. One really feels a sense of unity and solidarity as we all run and cheer together as one. In the life of an endurance athlete, it is a huge milestone. It’s a race we will never forget. No two marathons are ever alike. Each has story of its own. The sense of pride that overcomes you as you cross that finish line is indescribable, truly making it an extremely rewarding endeavor.

Jonathan D. - 5:30 pacer

Jonathan took up running shortly after the birth of his first child. Having been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 3.5 years prior, questions started to be raised regarding how active and involved he would be in his daughter's life. Questions like 'Will I be able to coach her soccer team?, teach her how to ride a bike?, how many years until I am in a wheelchair?, will I be able to walk her down the aisle on her wedding day?; we have yet to decide if we will even let her date! Jonathan’s thoughts turned to a proactive way he could be intentional about taking better care of myself. He turned to running. To date, eleven years into his MS journey, Jonathan has completed 23 marathons in 23 states and hopes to be at 30 states by the end of 2016. He began using a modified Jeff Galloway method of taking regular walk breaks during all of the water stops beginning with his 6th marathon, the day after meeting Jeff Galloway in Atlanta. His goal is to complete a marathon in all 50 states before he turns 50. Jonathan feels blessed to be able to do so much 15 years into his diagnosis. His ultimate goal is to run Boston as a charity runner for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Jonathan has paced the 4:45 marathon group in Hartford, CT to a finish within 10 seconds of that goal and he looks forward to pacing in Kansas City this year!
