Tim is thrilled to be joining SmartPacing.! He is 30yrs old and took up distance running after a college career running the 400m hurdles at the University of Missouri. Tim has run multiple marathons and half marathons including the 2013 and 2014 Boston Marathon. He has been coaching Cross Country and Track at Liberty High School for the last 7 years. He loves helping others achieve their goals and reach their potential, and looks forward to doing so as a pacer at local races! Some things Tim loves: fall weather, negative splits, chocolate milk, my wife, the Missouri Tigers, and the Kansas City Royals.

Brian L. - 1:35 pacer
Brian has been a runner since high school. He has run several 5K's throughout his running career, but got into longer distance running in 2005. Brian has run three sprint distance triathlons, several half marathons, and four full marathons. The highlight of his running career was running Boston in 2:58. Brian enjoys running with his high energy, German Shorthaired Pointer, Tango. He began pacing races in 2011 and has been a pacer for the Kansas City, Rock the Parkway, and Hospital Hill half marathons. While he is fairly new to the pacing world, Brian is extremely excited and confident that you will reach your goal pace and have a great time if you're running with his team!

Chris has run 46 marathons and about twice that many halfs, including pacing for 4 marathons and 20+ halfs. He enjoys distance running because it's excellent practice in not quitting, and entering marathons is good motivation for staying in shape.
For Chris as with most geezers, the idea of starting slow is appealing, and the Smartpacing strategy is a lot more enjoyable than running dead even splits. The challenge will be to see how many laughs can be generated the last part of the race.

Brandon has been an avid runner ever since he discovered the sport during his sophomore year of high school. This passion has lead him to run 2 marathons (Lincoln 2004 and Colorado 2011), 15k's, 10k's and numerous 5k's. Brandon has recently has recharged his enthusiasm with running to strive to achieve new heights he never ever thought were possible. In September of 2012, Brandon completed the North Face Endurance Challenge 50 Miler in Wisconsin in 8 hours and 30 minutes. It remains his most proudest running achievement to date. Living in Papillion Nebraska, Brandon continues to foster the love of the sport now as a Half-Marathon Pacer. He has paced over 10+ times using the SmartPacing Strategy. Candice ran her first half marathon as a challenge to herself in 2007. She enjoyed the training so much, it became an immediate addiction. Shortly after, Candice completed her first marathon, the Kansas city marathon, in 2009. Since 2009, Candice has completed 11 marathons including Boston and over 20+ half marathons. Candice's favorite things about running are meeting new people, running farther than most people drive, doing something healthy for her body, and eating finish line pizza! Candice brings her passion, high-energy, and enthusiasm to every race with a mission to motivate you to reach your goals! Chris has run distances from track events to marathons. He has paced several marathons in KS, MO and NE and has paced many half-marathons as well. Up until collage all the running he did was for other sports. In collage he really began to grow attached to the sport and competed in XC and track. After collage running became a part of his daily routine. He enjoys helping others achieve their goals and creating a healthy lifestyle. He is an elementary reading specialist and coaches middle school XC, wrestling and track.

Tiffany has been running for the past 25 years. She grew up in a small town in Nebraska and left shortly after graduation joining the United States Air Force. As an active duty member, Tiffany has run all over the world to include Germany, France, Prague, Italy, and Luxembourg. Tiffany was selected to run with the United States Air Forces in Europe team, and the Air Mobility Command for the 2013/14 Air Force Marathon team. Tiffany has ran 17 half-marathons, and 1 full-marathon. Finally, Tiffany has been pacing half-marathons since 2013 to help motivate other runners who share similar passions as her. Tiffany enjoys meeting new people, and helping others meet their goals.

Stephen L. - 2:00 pacer
Stephen picked up running in 2010 after realizing that two little curtain climbers needed their dad to be able to romp and play instead of sitting on the couch eating potato chips. Inspired by his brother who had also achieved great health results via running, he trained and completed his first 10k at the TLC Groundhog in January 2011. Since then he has run 5ks, 10ks, 10 mile trail, 20 mile trail, 50K trail, 44 miler at Brew2Brew multiple times, a bunch of full marathons, countless half marathons, sprint and international distance triathlon along with an ironman distance in 2014. His first marathon was the MO Cowbell in St. Charles, MO. His half marathon PR came in 2013, which was run purely for fun. The social and all inclusive aspect of running and multi-sport is what keeps Stephen going so don't be surprised if you end up run BFF's by the time your race is over. Stephen has plans to complete more trail runs, marathons, and half marathon pacing.

Shauna used to hate running, but then started running to lose a few pounds. After a few races, she was hooked and started trying new distances and incorporating speed workouts and longer runs. She has since completed six marathons, including Boston, NYC, and Chicago, as well as several half marathons, 10ks, and 5ks. Shauna looks forward to pacing you to your goal and taking your mind off the mile markers so you can take it all in on race day. There is nothing like crossing that Finish Line on race day, especially with a shiny new PR.

Jennifer started running about 4 years ago, and hasn't looked back. She has reached goals she never imagined she could. Now Jennifer loves to help others reach those same goals. She loves to see the smiles on the faces of runners when they cross that finish line. Jennifer has run many races, 7 of which being half marathons. She has paced her 13 year old daughter to two half marathons, and most recently paced the 2 hour group at the Good Life Halfsy. In pacing, Jennifer has found her favorite thing. Encouraging and motivating others has become a passion for her. She does so with positive reinforcement and endless energy. Jennifer loves to show each runner that they can succeed, and that their hard work can always pay off. Her never-quit attitude is infectious. Pacing is her way to give back to the running community that has been so generous to her. Brian ran his first 1/2 marathon in the 2009 Kansas City race and stayed to watch a friend finish the full. The thought began with "Hey, I should be able to do this." So he signed up and completed his first full at the Bass Pro Marathon just 2 weeks later! Since then Brian has either run or paced numerous half & full marathons. His latest accomplishment was finishing the Western States 100 mile Endurance Run.
He enjoys the company of fellow runners and continues to be amazed at the accomplishments/success stories of other runners. You just never know who in your pace group is going to share a personal story that inspires you. Brian believes that running with the group and having the camaraderie provides a distraction from the sometimes experienced or perceived "pain". The more fun we have, the less we will notice the mile markers flying by.

Deborah started running late in life, after her last of four children graduated from high school. Having watched her youngest run cross country for four years, something made her want to start running, as well. “You’re never too old to start,” she says. “Unlike so many sports, running is one you can do throughout your life.” Her first race was the Hospital Hill Run 10K and after that she went on to half marathons, having run 21 so far. Deborah has run 4 marathons but the half marathon is her favorite distance and she wants you to enjoy it just as much as she does. She says that pacers have played a big part in her racing experience so now she wants to pay that forward and help others along the way.

Since then she has run 13 marathons, 14 half marathons, and 1 ultra marathon. The variety of runs includes the “Goofy” run in Orlando and the Dublin Ireland Marathon. She believes in the Smart Pace method which includes a slow start for the first 2-3 miles; running a mile than walking a minute; walking through aid stations; going slow up hills, and increasing speed down the hill. She also believes running should be a fun and long lasting hobby.

Cynthia has been a pace group leader for The Runner's Edge for 11 years. By employing the SmartPace strategy, Cynthia has successfully completed more than 40 marathons and many more halves; Hospital Hill 2009-2015; Olathe Oz 2008-2016; Rock the Parkway 2010-2016; and Lincoln, Neb. 2011-2013, as well as others; two ultra road runs (31 miles x2), 10 ultra trail runs (50 miles, 40 miles, 44 miles x2, 38 miles, and 31 miles x5), and the Lake Tahoe Triple.
She was awarded the Road Runner's Club of America Grand Master Award for her finish in the 2010 Brew-to-Brew solo. Cynthia believes running comes from the head, the heart and the gut. She works with her group to use all those to your advantage. And she really enjoys encouraging others to do what they've never done before -- to run farther, to run faster or just to run! And having fun is the best part of it all.
Her strategy is to go out slow for the first 2-3 miles, run a mile and then walk a minute, walk through the aid stations for up to a minute, go very slow up hills and make up the time on the down hills while making sure you have even effort breathing the whole time.

Baylie discovered her love for running while in middle school and spent her high school and college years sprinting around the track. After an 8 year (ish) gap, she re-discovered her love but decided to add a few more miles and started running 5ks and 10Ks. In 2012, she finally settled on the Garmin Half Marathon as her first and didn't look back after that. Since then she has completed over 15 half marathons and 5 marathons, which qualified her to be a member of Marathon Maniacs (#7914) in 2013. Earlier in 2015, she completed her first Ultra Marathon 50K (Virtual Cowtown) and followed it up with a solo finish of Brew to Brew and an attempt at the Canadian Death Race in August. She is very excited to do everything she can to help each runner finish and have a wonderful time while doing so!

Melissa started running on Mother's Day 2012, and hasn't looked back since. Melissa runs long on Saturday mornings, changing locations throughout the city, and always enjoys a good cup of coffee afterwards. She cross trains several days a week, and really enjoys yoga and CrossFit. Since starting to run she has completed 44 half marathons, and countless shorter distance races. She is an active member of KC Express, and a Half Fanatic (#4222). Look for her at local races and be sure to say hello.

Layne starting running in 2011, and over time has made it more and more important in her life. Her goals have (slightly) altered from being a full time photographer into getting her personal training certification because she wants to motivate others towards their health goals.
Pacing is new to Layne, but she is excited to jump in with both feet and help her runners cross the finish line happy and injury free! She wants you to sit back and not worry about time. You can depend fully on Layne to get you where you need to be.

Amy owes her love for running to her son's cross country coach. The coach encouraged parents to run the road races with the team. One race and she was hooked! Inspired by her marathoner daughter and motivated by a MS diagnosis and wheelchair in her past, Scotty started running in January 2008. She just completed her 39th half marathon. Yes, that means the Inaugural Longview Half Marathon will be number 40! She has also completed 5 marathons and a spattering of 5 and 10 K's. Her goal this year has been to log more miles and continue to have fun doing it. Scotty was fortunate to meet the best pacers on the planet the first time she ran Hospital Hill Run. That experience with Janice and Kelly continues to motivate and inspire especially on the "today is not a good running day" days. Scotty has the honor of being a former Hospital Hill Run Hero and after that experience was bitten by the pacer bug. She will use every idea in the Magic Pacer Bag of Tricks to help you cross the finish line. Not being a speedster herself, Scotty recognizes and understands the unique challenges faced by "back-of-the-packers". The goal is not just to finish, but to recognize and take pride in the individual accomplishment. And, have a GREAT time doing it!

He loves seeing runners accomplish their goals and dig deeper than they knew possible.

Scott started running several years ago as a new challenge and way to stay fit. He runs all distances from 5K to marathon as well as triathlons from Sprint to full Ironman but seems to find himself doing marathons the most. As your pacer you can expect very consistent splits and a well planned race.

John began running over 20 years ago while training to get into shape for the Marine Corps, Force Reconnaissance community(MARSOC) he realized he had a little talent and enjoyed pushing himself. Since that time he has continued to run, racing everything from the mile to several 100 mile ultra marathons. While completing his Nursing degree he walked on to University of Illinois, at Chicago (UIC) and lettered in XC 2 years and track one season. He did this at the age of 32 & 33 and was affectionately known as “Gramps”, although slower amongst the men he did help train the top female runners. His true passion is trail running & ultras, when running ultras, he states he has the world’s best crew in his wife and 4 kids. Pacing is “side job” and will help you obtain your goal, if you are willing to push yourself, and have completed the training. To date he has run 68 Marathons (43 states goal all 50) & 45 Ultras. He lives in the Pacific NW where he works for the Navy as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Mike started running long distance races in 2012 with a New Year’s Resolution to finish a half marathon. He was soon hooked, logging over 5,000 miles since then and finishing 6 halfs and 6 full marathons, including Boston in 2014 and an overall win in his first ultra, a 50 mile race, in October.

Danny M. - 4:00 pacer
Danny began running marathons with the 2005 Chicago Marathon and has completed more than 50 marathons and ultra-marathons since then—including two 100-mile races. He also once ran 120 miles of a 200 mile race, but quit once he realized 200 miles was a long way.
He tends to believe in having fun during a race while getting you to the finish line in mostly one piece. So, expect random trivia, pointless stories and occasional costume when running with him.
Danny recently got his son Toby to sign up for his first marathon. Unfortunately, Toby has had some difficulty with the training plan—sitting in a stroller for four hours is exhausting.

Wael has been running since 2008. He has completed several ultra trail races, several half marathons and full marathons. He enjoys trail running with the Kansas City Trail Nerds. Wael completed three 100 mile ultra runs with a sub-24 hour finish in Feb, 2014.

Running is something Derek started doing in college as a reason to put off studying. Now it is something he does as a hobby and to meet new people. He has ran a few 5 and 10K’s but prefers half and full marathons. His favorites so far have been Rock the Parkway half and Berlin Marathon. Sundays are by far his favorite running day because he gets to meet up with others for a long run and share running stories. Eric has been running for over 12 years. One aspect Eric enjoys about running is meeting other runners in the community; they understand what’s it's like to have a crazy addiction for running and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Eric also enjoys helping and encouraging runners achieve their goals. Eric has completed multiple half marathons, 20 marathons, 2 50 milers and a 100 miles and he is confident that you will reach your goal when you pace with him. Eric will be using the Smart Pacing strategy to ensure a successful race.

Adam M. - 4:20 pacer
Adam "loves" waking up to run at 2:00am to get long runs in on weekdays before work. He has run 75+ marathons and ultramarathons so far and has a lot of "fun" doing them! He is often questioned by his view of "fun" and sometimes thinks they might be right...until about two days after the last race when he is ready to do it again!
He has paced the Olathe Marathon twice, Lincoln Marathon, and Kansas City Marathon and has finished under the goal time each time. He loves the SmartPace Strategy and the thrill of pacing someone to help them meet their goal at the marathon.

Greg has run competetively for 30 years. He has completed 40 marathons, including the Boston Marathon 5 times, and over 100 half marathons. He is an 8 year cancer survivor. Greg enjoys helping others meet their goals and his enthusiasm towards running is infectious.

Melissa has been a runner since middle school. She ran with her youngest son as her running buddy for many years. When he moved on to other activities, she decided it was time for a new challenge and signed up for her 1st full marathon in 2012. She was hooked and has run over 9 marathons since! Her goals are to participate in more destination races, continue to meet new people in the running community, and help other runners meet their goals while having fun.

Myra V. - 4:30 pacer
Myra was inspired to run after seeing her dad do over a hundred marathons and her husband begin his training program, The Runner's Edge. She hopes one day her two children will also want to run and carry on the family tradition. Since 1998, she has run 30 half marathons and 15 marathons, including Boston twice. Myra has paced the Kansas City and Hospital Hill half marathon several times utilizing the SmartPace strategy and short walk breaks through aid stations. The words that inspire her during a race are "Run with Joy!"

Ken F. - 4:45 pacer
Ken started running for fitness and recreation in college and completed his first marathon in 1980. He intended to run his second in the fall of 1983 but medical school ended up taking more time than he thought. 25 years later, he decided to make priorities instead of excuses and has now finished 240 marathons, including at least one in every state. He has also earned titanium/10-star status in Marathon Maniacs 4 years in a row by completing at least 52 in 52 weeks, qualifying him for the Hall of Fame. He practices SmartPacing principles in his own training/racing and in mentoring his son (who has been a Half Fanatic since he was 10 and Marathon Maniac since he was 12). Ken has paced 90 marathons and hopes you'll have a great time on the way to beating your goal time.

Mike P. - 4:45 pacer
Mike started to get serious about his running by completing his first Half Marathon at the Kansas City Marathon in 2007. He found he enjoyed the challenge and completed his first Marathon in 2008. Mike's wife, Kelly, introduced him to pacing and he found he really liked to help people achieve their goals. Mike has paced several Half and Full Marathons using the Smart Pacing strategy.

Mike has completed 167 marathons in 39 different states. His past pacing experiences have included the Kansas City Marathon, the Lincoln Marathon and the Olathe Marathon. Mike is passionate about sharing his many running experiences with others and supporting all marathoners in doing their personal best.

Steve H. - 5:00 pacer
Steve picked up running in 2009 as a way to practice healthy habits and was soon hooked. His favorite race is Hospital Hill because it is a great course and really puts you to the test. Steve has paced 9 marathons and 9 half marathons. He will never stop encouraging the runners in his group because HIS goal is helping you reach YOUR goal. He strongly believes in running at 'even effort' using Smart Pacing in order to help his group run their best race possible. He goes easy on the hills and walks through all aid stations in order to maximize efficiency.

Mary L. - 5:15 pacer
While always physically active, Mary did not become a long distance runner until after the age of 40. She set a goal to run a full marathon as a “bucket list” item and in the process discovered a passion for running. She has now completed 14 full marathons and over 20 half marathons. She enjoys being in the company of other runners and encouraging them to achieve their goals. Mary’s hope is that you complete the race by not only meeting your goal, but also having fun in the process!
Marty M. - 5:15 pacer
Marty Miller is a 44 year old man who has been involved in fitness for over 20 years. He worked as an athletic trainer and strength and conditioning coach in professional sports and has been a personal trainer for over 20 years.
When Marty turned 39 he started running 5k's and half marathons and the next year started running marathons and ultra races.
He enjoyed assisting people in achieving their fitness goals and is encouraging and motivational. He will not quit on you and help you believe in yourself. He wants fitness to be fun and life long.
Edward B. - 5:30 pacer
Edward has been running since 2007. His first Marathon was the Seoul International Marathon in South Korea. He served in the US Army for over 26 years and enjoyed the challenges of the Marathons. Edward deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan multiple times during his career so in 2010 he came back and ran 9 Marathon in 9 months to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project. Edward then went on to deploy 1 last time in 2012 getting back in September 2012. The next month Edward ran 13 Marathons in 10 weeks propelling him to complete all 50 states, running a total of 53 marathons from September 2012-September 2013. He also completed his first 100 miler and 50 miler and loves the Ultra and Marathon distance. Ed has found that pacing is very rewarding and is happy to see others reach their goals.

I am an avid endurance athlete competing in: Ironman Triathlons, Ironman 70.3 Triathlons, Sprint Triathlons, Ultra Marathons, Marathons, Half Marathons and local 10k and 5k races. These taking place all over the United States.
My favorite running event is the marathon. It’s a great experience! There are people everywhere; runners and fellow competitors swarming all over the place. One really feels a sense of unity and solidarity as we all run and cheer together as one. In the life of an endurance athlete, it is a huge milestone. It’s a race we will never forget. No two marathons are ever alike. Each has story of its own. The sense of pride that overcomes you as you cross that finish line is indescribable, truly making it an extremely rewarding endeavor.
